Imagine, you just passed away and suddenly you find yourself in a room full of people waiting your turn to stand in front of the three judges of "Heavenly Idol" ready to perform the song you have practiced your entire life to sing.
Suddenly, it's time...contestant number 57, 633, 232, 131 has been called to the stage. There you find yourself in front of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit, all waiting to judge your performance, to weigh the fruits of your lifetime of hard work. The third judge, The Holy Spirit, asks with an almost certain English accent why you should be the next Heavenly Idol... You spout off about how hard you have worked, all the good things you have done with your life, and why you deserve to be the next "Heavenly Idol".
Wanting to encourage you to give the best performance you’ve got, God the Father states,”OK, Dog, let's see what you got". Certain you've played the right song and done all the right things in your life, you begin to sing the song of your heart... You are sure you’ve nailed it; you’ve picked the right tune. The one that will showcase the best of who you are, and with everything you’ve got you begin to sing a familiar tune, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”…
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!
As you belt at the last line, you are sure your performance was solid. Your confidence is rising and you are certain you are a shoe in for the next round, you are beaming with excitement, but then reality begins hits you as the judges chime in…
God the Father looks at you with disappointment on his face: “Yo, Dog, that’s just the wrong song choice. I’m sorry, dog, but that just didn’t cut it.
Jesus with compassion and sadness in His eyes states, “I’m sorry, it’s just not quite what we are looking for.”
God the Holy Spirit with absolute directness cuts to the heart of the matter and tells you the truth: “Not only is that the wrong song choice, but out of the millions of people we have seen today that quite possibly is the farthest from the mark so far.”
From there you are directed to leave through the “other door” without a golden ticket to Heavenly Idol. As you exit extreme disappointment and restlessness sets in as you realize you have forever been separated from the one you want to be closest too, the giver of life, peace, and joy...you wonder what you did wrong, why you weren’t selected… And it was simply because you never accepted Him and lived your entire life denying Him.
While in some ways this is a silly parody loosely based on a message preached this past Sunday morning at church titled “I Did It God’s Way”, it’s intent is to to get you to think. What song is your heart singing today? Are you doing it your way or are you doing it “His” way? That is the question…. What is your heart’s cry today? Are you leaning on His higher ways?
My prayer for all of you is that you will know the One that died for you and that you will allow your soul to rest in His higher ways.
Don't go through life singing the wrong song. If you do not know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and would like to talk about it, please message me privately.
God bless you all!
