Did Adam and Eve have a belly button?
Posted On: 01/26/2007 01:05:09

I'm not sure if folks have read my profile enough or not to notice that one of my interest is "creation" science. Yes, I believe this great big world we live in and everything in it was created by God, and I love science! Fortunately, the two fit well together! Think about it..."intelligent design" compared to "macro/micro evolution"? What an interesting subject to explore! Well, I guess it is if you love science!!!

Consider this...If Adam and Eve were formed from the dust of the earth by God's own hand and were not born, then it is very reasonable to assume that they did not have an umbilical cord to nourish them during development like you and I.

Since the detachment of the umbilical cord post birth is what causes each of us to have a belly button, then is it plausible that Adam and Eve did not have one? It's my speculation that they did not.

I can just see their grandkids running up to them asking, "Grandpa, do really not have a belly button?" "Can I see?"

Can you picture Grandpa Adam comparing his belly to his grandson's and smiling at the testimony and visible sign of God's creation that He visibly displayed on his stomach? I can... :O)

So, in the spirit of fun....considering a creation point of view... what do you think? Did Adam and Eve have a belly button?

These are important questions to answer and I have to know! LOL!

Seriously, when I get to heaven I'm going to ask God directly, but for now, I'll settle for your comments!

Let's have fun...be nice!

God bless,

Toni :O)

You raise a good question, but what is the point? Adam was created first, so maybe he didn't have a belly button, and Eve was created from the side of Adam, so probably had one. Maybe they both had them, so their children wouldn't feel they were different. But there are a couple of other points to think about. Gen. 1:26-27 "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Does this mean that God has a belly button? I do not believe that Adam had a belly button, and neither does God, nor Eve. There was a change though when God created Eve, a rib was removed from Adam to do it. Gen. 2:22 "And the LORD God fashioned into a woman  the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man." This is why Adam said Gen. 2:23 "And the man said, 'This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." Does not man today have one less rib? Some thing else because of Gen. 1:27, is God both male and female? As for Jesus, yes he had a belly button, and no he was not born of two humans, "with sin" as stated in the post Jan. 27th at 3:43pm, as sin comes through the seed of man, not woman, no earthly father, no sin. This also makes Joseph the step father of Jesus. Well, this is enough from me, it is 1:45am here in Oregon, so have a Blessed new day. Virgil

Toni,

When we get to Heaven, we'll be able to run up to Adam and Eve and ask to see for ourselves :)  I think that you're probably right, they didn't have belly buttons.  I've heard this question asked before, but never did really think too much about it until I read your blog.  It is interesting to think about isn't it?

Good ponderance, but I don't know (obviously) But I too like to "Ponder" on such things and I find it humorus that it takes far more faith to believe there was no intelligent creation than it does to believe in God. I know my grandaughter would have nothing to stuff grass into if I had no belly button.lol

This is an interesting question. An even more interesting one would be: When Adam and Eve had Cain, when he was hanging on to the cord, what did they say to one another? I imagine it must have gone something like this.

Adam: What IS that thing?

Eve: I don't know! But get this baby off of me!

Adam: Well what the crap do you want me to do? Just cut the dang thing?

Eve: Honestly I don't care what you do at this point, just help separate that baby from my body!

Adam: Okay well I misplaced the scissors.

Eve: WHAT?!

Adam: Well if you hadn't given me that fruit we wouldn't.......

Eve: ALWAYS going back to that, huh? LET IT GO.

Adam: Fine! If you want to be rude like that, then you can get rid of that cord yourself!

Eve: No no no! Okay there's a knife in the kitchen. Just go grab that and we'll play it by ear.

Adam: We don't have a 'kitchen'. We live outside, because YOU GAVE ME.....

Eve: Dang it, Adam! Stop this nonsense!

That's just my opinion

I have always thought that Adam and Eve did NOT have belly buttons since they were formed by God Himself.  Isn't it funny how the word "Adam" means "red" and so many painters have painted him white.  With the gene pool being soooo high at that time and the dirt God used Adam must have looked more like our Native American friends--minus belly button.  But that's another topic for another day!

i believe they did because , we are made in his image,so in that case i believe everybody is the same..

hummmmmm.....How do we know that Jesus had a belly button?Even though he was born of a woman he doesn't mean he has a belly button. He also was born of 2 humans"with sin" and he doesn't have that......just a thought!
