Thought for the day: Remember, when the world pushes you to your knees, you're in the perfect position to pray.

Signs Found at Church
Posted On 09/15/2006 17:16:00
Signs Found at Church "Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!" "Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins." "Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!" An ad for St. Joseph's Episcopal Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets." When the restaurant next to the Lutheran Church put out a big sign with red letters that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too." "Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons - come hear one!" A singing group called "The Resurrection" was scheduled to sing at a church. When a big snowstorm postponed the performance, the pastor fixed the outside sign to read, "The Resurrection is postponed." "People are like tea bags - you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are." "God so loved the world that He did not send a committee." "Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush!" "When down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out all right." "Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday." "Fight truth decay - study the Bible daily." "How will you spend eternity - Smoking or Non-smoking?" "Dusty Bibles lead to Dirty Lives": "Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world." "It is unlikely there'll be a reduction in the wages of sin." "Do not wait for the hearse to take you to church." "If you're headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns." "If you don't like the way you were born, try being born again." "Looking at the way some people live, they ought to obtain eternal fire insurance soon." "This is a ch_ _ ch. What is missing?" --------- (U R) "Forbidden fruit creates many jams." "In the dark? Follow the Son." "Running low on faith? Stop in for a fill-up." "If you can't sleep, don't count sheep. Talk to the Shepherd."

He Has Answers!

For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves, God has a positive answer for it : You say: "It's impossible", God says: All things are possible (Luke 18:27) You say: "Nobody really loves me", God says: I love you (John 3:16 & John 13:34) You say: "I can't go on" God says: My grace is sufficient (II Corinthians 12:9 & Psalm 9:15) You say: "I can't figure things out" God says: I will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6) You say: "I can't do it" God says: You can do all things (Philippians 4:13) You say: "I'm not able" God says: I am able (II Corinthians 9:8) You say: "I can't forgive myself" God says: I FORGIVE YOU (I John 1:9 & Romans 8:1) You say: "I can't manage" God says: I will supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19) You say: "I'm afraid" God says: I have not given you a spirit of fear (IITimothy1:7) You say: "I'm always worried and frustrated" God says: Cast all your cares on ME (I Peter 5:7) You say: "I don't have enough faith" God says: I've given everyone a measure of faith (Romans 12:3) You say: "I'm not smart enough" God says: I give you wisdom (I Corinthians 1:30) You say: "I feel all alone" God says: I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews13:5)

The Water Pots
Posted On 09/11/2006 11:21:47
Good story :) A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you." "Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?" "I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said. The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path." Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house." Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But if we will allow it, the Lord will use our flaws to grace His Father's table. In God's great economy, nothing goes to waste. So as we seek ways to minister together, and as God calls you to the tasks He has appointed for you, don't be afraid of your flaws. Acknowledge them, and allow Him to take advantage of them, and you, too, can be the cause of beauty in His pathway. Go out boldly, knowing that in our weakness we find His strength, and that "In Him every one of God's promises is a Yes".

Bible Verse

How can we be sure we are doing the right thing—that which is morally correct and pleasing to God—instead of doing the wrong thing in an efficient way? Solomon wrote his proverbs so that his son would "receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity." Or, as one translation puts it, to acquire "a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair" (Proverbs 1:3 NIV).

Let Me Give

LET ME GIVE I do not know how long I'll live But while I live, Lord, let me give Some comfort to someone in need By smile or nod, kind word or deed. And let me do what ever I can To ease things for my fellow man. I want naught but to do my part To "lift" a tired or weary heart. To change folks' frowns to smiles again. Then I will not have lived in vain And I'll not care how long I'll live If I can give ... and give ... and give. -BJ.Morbitzer

Words to Remember

I'm not really a blogger. I've never kept one before. I hope it doesn't sound silly as I'm not really much of a writer either :) These are quotes that Marty De Haan has kept and passed on. (got these in snailmail yesterday). 1. God loves us enough to accept us as we are, but He loves us too much to leave us that way. 2. We see things not only as they are, but as we are. 3. The secret of abundance is found in not what we have, but in what we enjoy. (love this one!) 4. Attack problems, not people. 5. What God thinks of us is more important than what we think of ourselves. 6. Fear God, not run from Him, but to Him. 7. Use things and love people. Don't use people and love thing. (this is a good one). 8. I have found the desire to have is soon replaced by the fear of losing. 9. The poorest of all are those who don't know the one to thank for the sunshine or the one to trust in the darkness.
