"Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; & every branch the bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit." &n bsp; JOHN 15:2
As Christ emphasized in His parable of the vine & the branches, it is vitally important for a Believer to bear fruit. There are, in fact, many types of spiritual fruit mentioned in Scripture. But the most important fruit, produced in one's life by the Holy Spirit, is that fo a Christ-like character. : "But the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; GALATIANS 5:22-23 "For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, & truth. " &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; EPHESIANS 5:9 Holiness-the seal of a life dedicated to God is a certain kind of spiritual fruit. :
"But now having been set free from sin, & having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, & everlasting life." &n bsp;   ; ROMANS 6:22
"being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory & praise of God." &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; &n bsp; PHILIPPIANS 1:11
This entails also the fruit of good works performed in the name of Christ. :
"that you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work & increasing in the knowledge of God." &n bsp; COLOSSIANS 1:10 The habit of giving thanks & praise rather than complaint & criticism, is a valuable Christian fruit. : "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name." HEBREWS 13:15
Generosity is another important fruit. Paul commended the sacrificial giving of the Philippians : "Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that bounds to your account." &n bsp;   ; &n bsp; PHILIPPIANS 4:17
Finally, one vital fruit of a Christian witness is fruit borne in other Christians' lives.
"Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you, also just as among the other Gentiles." &n bsp;   ; &n bsp; ROMANS 1:13
The passages of Scripture are from the : New King James Version ( NKJV )
" For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh,God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh,on account of sin : He condemned sin in the flesh." ROMANS 8:3 The great truths of Christmas (meaning, originally,"Christ~sent") is that "God was manifest in the flesh." This is the faithful saying : For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. If we endure , We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. &nb sp; &nb sp; ~1 TIMOTHY 3:16 The eternal Word (was made flesh,& dwelt among us) : "And the Word became flesh & dwelt among us,& we beheld His glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace & truth." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; ~ JOHN 1:4 So vital is the truth that : "and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming,& is now already in the world." &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; ~1 JOHN 4:3 Jesus Christ the God/Man ~infinite God & perfect Man,perfectly joined in full union,& salvation is based on this truth. If Jesus Christ were not perfectMan,He could not die for the sins of humanity; if He were not God,He could not defeat death & save us from the penalty of sin. He could not be born in sinful flesh,of course, like all the descendants of Adam, but only in the "likeness" of sinful flesh. From the moment of conception : "For such a High Priest, was fitting for us,who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,& has become higher than the heavens." ~HEBREWS 7:26 ,& this is miraculously conceived in a virgin's womb. In fact, that miraculous creation of His body in the womb of Mary was the actual moment when God become Man. It is even possible that the incarnation took place on that very night that we now call Christmas, since it is probable that Jesus was actually born in the early fall, when shepherds were in the field with their sheep. How appropriate it would be if "The Light of the World" had indeed come into the world on near that world's longest night in just 9 months before.

No,Lord

" No,Lord," Peter declared,"I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have decleared impure & unclean." ~ ACTS 10:14
This response of Peter to the Lord's command is a self contradiction. How could He be Peter's Lord if Peter felt free to disobey His command ? The doctrine & practicesof the Lordship of Messiah have always been difficult & controversial. Many Christians who have called Him their Savior & Lord nevertheless often feel free to question or disregard His Word. There may be legitimate discussion that deals with the interpretation of the Word, but there is never justification for questioning its authority, regardless of the pretenses of the modern intellectuals or the pressures of public opinion. As the Lord Yeshua the Messiah rebukingly asked : "So why do you keep calling Me 'Lord,Lord!' when you don't do what I say ? I will show you what it's like when someone comes to Me,listens to My teaching,& then follows it." ~ LUKE 6:46 There was an earlier occasion when Peter revealed this same inconsistency. When the Messiah told His imminent to His disciples : "But Peter took Him aside & began to reprimand Him for for saying such things. "Heaven forbid,Lord, "he said. "This will never happen to you." ~ MATTHEW 16:22 The Lord, therefore, had to rebuke Peter . It was not Peter's prorogative, nor is it ours, to question the Word of the Lord, even when we don't yet understand it. That kind of attitude can, under certain circumstances, have deadly & eternal consequences. Yeshua warned those who would profess His Lordship without its reality : "On judgment day many will say to Me,'Lord !Lord ! We prophesied in Your name & performed many miracles in Your name.' But I will reply,'I never knew you. Get away from Me, you who break God's laws. ~ MATTHEW 7:22-23 Peter learned this lesson & was soon able to confess unreservedly concerning the Messiah : " This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all." ~ ACTS 10:36
"They replied," Believe in the Lord Jesus & you will be saved, along with everyone in your household." ~ ACTS 16:31 Certainly we should seek to believe & obey His Word in all things.
Passages of Scripture are from the "New Living Translation" (NLT)
"Jesus reached out & touched him." I am willing," He said. "Be healed!"And instantly the leprosy disappeared." MATTHEW 8:3
This is the 1st occurence in the New Testament of the word "touch"& it is significant that it was Jesus who was doing the touching. When Jesus healed someone,He could (& sometimes did) merely speak a word to accomplish the healing : "At the end of 2 days,Jesus went on to Galilee . He Himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown. Yet the Galileans welcomed Him,for they had been in Jerualem at the Passover celebration & had seen everything He did there. As He traveled through Galilee, He came to Cana, where He had turned water into wine. There was a government officialin nearby Capernaum whose son was very sick. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went & begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son,who was about to die. Jesus asked, " Will you never believe in Me unless you see miraculous signs & wonders ?" The official pleaded, " Lord, please come now before my little boy dies." Then Jesus told him, "Go back home. Your son will live !" And the man believed what Jesus said & started home. While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive & well. He asked them when the boy had begun to get better,& they replied, "Yesterday afternoon at 1:00pm his fever suddenly disappeared !" Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him, "Your son is will live." And he & his entire household believed in Jesus. This was the 2nd miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from judea." JOHN 4:43-54
Often, however,He showed His love & concern by actually touching the person. Lepers were considered untouchable, for their loathsome disease was highly contagious & considered incurable. Yet Jesus touched him,& healed him !
"Then He walked over to the coffin & touched it,& the bearers stopped. "Young man," He said, "I tell you,get up." Then the dead boy sat up & began to talk ! And Jesus gave him back to his mother." LUKE 7:14-15
"When Jesus arrived at Peter's house,Peter's mother inlaw was sick in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up & prepared a meal for Him. " MATTHEW 8:14-15
The word indicating a high fever & probably a contagious disease, but Jesus "touched her hand, & the fever left her." On at least 2 occasions, blind men begged Him for their sight. &nb sp; "Then he touched their eyes & said, " Because of your faith,it happen." Then their eyes were opened, & they could see ! Jesus sternly warned them, "Don't tell anyone about this." MATTHEW 9:29-30
"Lord,"they said,"we want to see !" Jesus felt sorry for them & touched their eyes. Instantly they could see ! Then they followed Him." MATTHEW 20:33-34
A man who was deaf & dumb was healed when Jesus touched his tongue : "Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put His fingers into the mans ears. Then spitting on own His own fingers, he touched the man's tongue. Looking up to heaven, He sighed & said, "Ephphatha," which means, "Be opened !" Instantly the man could hear perfectly, & his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly !" MARK 7:33-35 When Peter impetuously cut off the ear of one of the soldiers sent to arrest Jesus :
"But Jesus said, "No more of this." And He touched the man's ear & healed him." LUKE 22:51 One touching was different. : "One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so He could touch & bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering Him. V 13. "Then He took the children in His arms & placed His hands on their heads & blessed them." V 16. &nb sp; &nb sp; MARK 10:13,16
The passages of Scriptures are from the : New Living Translation ( NLT )
"Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind & a thankful heart." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; COLOSSIANS 4:2 There is no set time to pray, for it is always appropriate. Our passage of Scripture, tells us to "Devote" yourselves in prayer. :
"Rejoicing in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, & keep on praying." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; ROMANS 12:12 It urges us to be instant in prayer , to be encouraged to : "Never stop praying," in other translations of the Bible for example : ( KJV,& NKJV ) it says, " Pray with out ceasing." &n bsp; 1 THESSALONIANS 5:17
Children should pray ,as did little Samuel. When the Lord called, he could answer : And the LORD came & called as before, "Samuel!Samuel!" And Samuel replied,"Speak, your servant is listening.' " 1 SAMUEL 3:10
Young people should pray, as Timothy, who was encouraged by Paul : "I urged you, 1st of all to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, & give thanks for them." &n bsp; 1 TIMOTHY 2:1
Adult men should pray,as did Paul himself, who could say to the Believers in Philippi :
"Whenever I pray, I make my request for all of you with joy." PHILIPPIANS 1:4
Old men should pray, like Simeon, & old women, like Anna, who severed God with fastings & prayers night & day. :
"At the time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous & devout & was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come & rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him." V.25 "Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, & she was very old. Her husband died when they had been married only 7 yrs. Then she lived as a widow to the age of 84 yrs. She never left the Temple but stayed there day & night, worshipping God with fasting & prayer." VV.36-37 &nb sp; LUKE 2:25, 36-37 And even dying men should pray, as did Stephen who, as he was being stoned to death, was calling upon God : "As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." He fell to his knees, shouting, "Lord, don't charge them with this sin !" And with that, he died." &n bsp;   ; ACTS 7:59-60
We can pray at dawn like David, who said : "Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you & wait expectantly." PSALM 5:3
In a Philippian prison : Around midnight Paul & Silas were praying & singing hymns to God, & the other prisoners were listening." ACTS 16:25
Daniel, kneeled & sang praises unto God : "But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home & knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed 3 times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God." DANIEL 6:10
There is no time that is not a good time for prayer. One should pray in times of sorrow, & also in times of joy as did Hannah in both circumstances :
"Oh no, sir !" she replied. " I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, & I was pouring out my heart to the LORD. Don't think I am a wicked woman ! For I have been praying out of great anguish & sorrow." 1 SAMUEL 1:15-16 "My heart rejoices in the LORD ! The LORD has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because You rescued me. No one is holy like the LORD ! There no one besides You ; there is no Rock like our God. " 1 SAMUEL 2:1-2 It is an awesome privelidge that we as Believers have through Christ, that we are able to speak to the infinite God in prayer, & to know that He hears, & cares ! Therefore, pray !
The Passages of Scripture is from the : New Living Translation ( NLT )
"And now, brethren, I commend you to God & to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up & give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." ACTS 20:32 Many beautiful descriptors are used in the New Testament to illustrate the powers of the Word of God, both spoken & written. For example, the Lord Jesus is called " the Word of Life" : "That which from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have looked upon & our hands have handled, concerning the Word of Life. " 1 JOHN 1:1 Paul speaking of the Scriptures, reminded the church in Philippi that they should be holding fast the word of Life. : "holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain." PHILIPPIANS 2:16 Jesus called the Scriptures, which were to be spread through the world like a seed sown in a field. " the word of the knigdom. : " When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, & does not understand it , then the wicked one comes & snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. " MATTHEW 13:19 The Apostle Paul called them the word of faith ,which we preach. : "But what does it say ? "The word is near you, even in your mouth & in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach). " ROMANS 10:8 Quoting a particular Scripture, he spoke of it as "the word of promise" : "For this is the word of promise: At this time I will come & Sarah shall have a son." &nb sp; ROMANS 9:9 ( Paul quoting from Genesis 18:10-14 ) As His witnesses & ambassadors, it is to us that : " Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, & has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their tresspasses to them, & has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. " &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; 2 CORINTHIANS 5:18-20 "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; EPHESIANS 1:13 The writer of Hebrews called it (the word of exhortation) : " And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words. " &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; HEBREWS 13:22 In writing thhrough John t othe faithful church at Philidelphia, the Lord Jesus commended them because they had ( kept the command to persevere, also means the word of patience ). : "Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; REVELATION 3:10 But undoubtedly one of the most beautiful & meaningful of such metaphors of God's Word is the one found in our passage which says this : "Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldy in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the Word of His Grace, granting signs & wonders to be done by their hands." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; ACTS 14:3 There is no greater theme in the Bible than the unmerited, abundant, inexhaustible, saving grace of God in Christ, & it is fitting thats God's eternal Word be known as "the Word of His Grace."The book, in fact ends on this very note. : "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you Amen." ~ REVELATION 22:21 The passages of Scripture is from the : New King James Version ( NKJV )
"I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only." PSALM 71:16 Since God the Creator is omnipotent, if we can go in His strength, there would seem to be no limit to what could be accomplished. The Book of PSALMS, in for instance ,over & over again ,testifies that God indeed is our strength. "I WILL love, You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock,& my fortress & my deliverer; My God,my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield & the horn of my salvation,my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies." &n bsp;   ; PSALM 18:1-3 But how do we appropriate ( or use it ) GOD's strength & how is it manifested in our own lives ? The answer is not what most would expect. : "He does not delight in the strength of the horse ; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy." &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; PSALM 147:10-11 "So he answered said to me; " This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel : 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts." ZACHARIAH 4:6 Our Passages of Scripture here, in itself indicates that going in the strength of the Lord is essentially to "make mention of Your righteousness,of Yours only." Speaks of GOD's righteousness (not ours) in the fear of the Lord & the leading of the Spirit hoping only in His mercy, manifests the strength of the Lord. "Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat , drink the sweet, & send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared ; for this day is holy to our LORD. Do not sorrow, for the Joy of the LORD is your strength." &n bsp; NEHEMIAH 8:10 And, finally, the Apostle Paul, who surely exhibited the strength of God in his life as much as anyone ever did, testified of what our Lord Jesus said to him : And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weaknes." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast, in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. &nb sp; &nb sp; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:10 His grace & His joy, shining through our own weakness, enable the person : "They go from strength to strength ; Everyone of them appears before God in Zion. " &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; PSALM 84:7 It is in His service............. The passages of Scripture is from the : New King James Version ( NKJV )
'Twas the Night Jesus Came'
TWAS THE NIGHT JESUS CAME AND ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE NOT A PERSON WAS PRAYING,NOT ONE IN THE HOUSE. THE BIBLES WERE LEFT ON THE SHELF WITHOUT OF CARE, FOR NO ONE THOUGHT THAT JESUS WOULD COME THERE. THE CHILDREN WERE DRESSING TO CRAWL INTO BED, NOT ONCE EVER KNEELING OR BOWING A HEAD. AND MOM IN HER ROCKER WITH BABY IN HER LAP WAS WATCHING THE LATE SHOW WHILE I TOOK A NAP. WHEN OUT OF THE EAST THERE ROSE SUCH A CLATTER, I SPRANG TO MY FEET TO SEE WHAT WAS THE MATTER. AWAY TO THE WINDOW I FLEW LIKE A FLASH TORE OPEN THE SHUTTERS AND LIFTED THE SASH ! WHEN WHAT TO MY WONDERING EYES SHOULD APPEAR, BUT ANGELS PROCLAIMING THAT JESUS WAS HERE ! THE LIGHT OF HIS FACE MADE ME COVER MY HEAD- IT WAS JESUS RETURNING, JUST AS HE SAID. AND THOUGH I POSSESSED WORLDLY WISDOM AND WEALTTH, I CRIED WHEN I SAW HIM IN SPITE OF MYSELF. IN THE BOOK OF LIFE WHICH HE HELD IN HIS HAND WAS WRITTEN THE NAME OF EVERY SAVED MAN. HE SPOKE NOT A WORD AS HE SEARCHED FOR MY NAME; WHEN HE SAID,"IT'S NOT HERE" MY HEAD HUNG IN SHAME. THE PEOPLE WHOSE NAMES HAD BEEN WRITTEN WITH LOVE HE GATHERED TO TAKE TO HIS FATHER ABOVE. WITH THOSE WHO WERE READY HE ROSE WITHOUT A SOUND WHILE ALL THE REST WERE LEFT STANDING AROUND. I FELL TO MY KNEES,BUT IT WAS TOO LATE ; I HAD WAITED TOO LONG AND THUS SEALED MY FATE. I STOOD AND CRIED AS THEY ROSE OUT OF SIGHT ; OH, IF ONLY I'D KNOWN THAT THIS WAS THE NIGHT. IN THE WORDS OF THIS POEM THE MEANING IS CLEAR ; THE COMING OF JESUS IS NOW DRAWING NEAR. THERE'S ONLY ONE LIFE AND WHEN COMES THE LAST CALL WE'LL FIND THAT THE BIBLE WAS TRUE AFTER ALL. &nb sp; -by Margie Knight
&nb sp; Posted in our church bulletin by my Senior Pastor Jeff Johnson & wife Karen Johnson of Calvary Chapel of Downey Ca.
" And He commanded us to preach to the people & to testify that He is appointed by God to be judge of the living & the dead." ~ ACTS 10:42 This is the climax of the 1st Christian sermon to the Gentiles delivered by Peter in the house of the Roman centurion,Cornelius. Peter emphasized the truth that Jesus was not just the promised Messiah of Israel,but that "He is Lord of all" : "As for the word the He sent to Israel, preaching the good news of peace through Jesus Christ ( He is Lord of all )." ~ ACTS 10:36 ~It is He alone who will judge the " "Living & the Dead." This striking phrase occurs only 3 times in the Bible, each time denoting that the Messiah is Judge of all men. Paul wrote this to young Timothy : "I charge you in the presence of God & of Christ Jesus,who is to judge the living & the dead,& by His appearing & His kingdom : preach the word; be ready in season & out of season; reprove,rebuke,& exhort,with complete patience & teaching." &n bsp;   ; 2 TIMOTHY4:1-2 Peter wrote concerning the gross Gentile sins from which his readers had been delivered: "but they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living & the dead." ~ 1 PETER 4:5 When the Messiah returns : "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, & with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise 1st. Then we who are alive,who are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, & so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words." &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; ~ 1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-18 Then all those Believers still alive in the flesh at His coming will appear before Him: "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil." 2 CORINTHIANS 5:10 ~ This will be the judgment of the"Living" . All the saved are alive in Messiah at "the resurrection life." But He must also judge the Dead : " And you were dead in trespasses &. sins   ; ~ EPHESIANS 2:1 "come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, & those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment." ~ JOHN 5:29 "The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son." ~ JOHN 5:22 "And I saw the dead, great & small,standing before the throne, & books were open. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in them, & they were judged, each one of them, according to what they have done. Then Death & Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyones name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." ~ REVELATION 20:12-15 The passages of Scripture is from the English Standard Version ( ESV ) &nb sp;
