Posted On 06/08/2006 14:03:55
I am now switching all my myspace stuff over to this forum, so I will be posting some previous blogs. There's not that many, but then I doubt many people will read them anyway. Get em!

Samaritan Woman
Posted On 06/08/2006 13:59:07
I was struck today about the story of the Samaritan woman at the well. Here we have a woman who is part of a sect of Judaism. The Samaritans were the leftover remnants of the Jews that intermarried with other cultures. They also rejected the first 5 books of the Jewish bible except for their own version. And it is here that Jesus comes to teach us about worship. He sees that she is a Samaritan, she's a woman, she's also a harlot (which being all three meant for a very low social status in that culture). He doesn't start berating her for her religion or heritage. He doesn't condemn her, because he wants her. He comes to the well and asks the woman for a drink. He doesn't hold much back either. When he asks her to go get her husband he strikes at her heart. "The quickest way to the heart is through a wound."(Piper, Desiring God) He also tells her the truth that her beliefs are incomplete, because salvation comes from the Jews. Now while this could turn into an essay on God's willingness to go to the lowest of the low or to save a harlot, what really struck me today was that Jesus did not pay attention to the denomination of the woman, though if she had continued on that path she would have ended up in hell. He presented her the truth, not only truth, but truth in love. Because truth without love wounds, love without truth deceives but truth in love produces a worshipper. And that is what God desires. Those who would treasure Christ and their relationship with God above all else. Ah the revelations we have at Starbucks.

Fresh in Florida
Posted On 06/07/2006 19:20:46
Well I am now here in Florida and have 7 weeks before seminary classes begin. I am hoping to use this primarily as a forum for supporters and family, and also for friends and networking. I will be updating often hopefully with things that I learning struggles I am having, but always hoping and relishing in the sweet sufficiency that Christ gives. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Eric, I am 24 and am getting ready to start seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary. I became a christian when I was 16 and I have seen God do so many amazing things through me, through others, through death and through new life. He truly is everything I need. I absolutely adore my girlfriend Lesley and I hope we don't have to be apart for too long. She is still in GA. My Dad and his wife Heather live in Utah. He is an assoc. pastor at a Baptist church there and a store director for Circuit City. Heather is an author and marathon runner and the best stinkin step-mom a guy could ask for. And they ridiculously spoil their mini-snauzer Maulder. My sister Sarah and bro-in-law Steve live in CA, but are prepping to move to GA where my family seems to be congregating. Sarah is in her second trimester and she and Steve are gonna be awesome parents. They have been through quite a journey, but that's another story. My mom and grandma live together out in CA and are prepping to move out to GA soon also. My mom is the hardest worker I have known and she is fiscally wise. My grandma is super cool, cuz she can make some mean hamas. My gf Lesley is in GA where I just moved from and we talk quite a bit on the phone and she sends me care packages with cookies and notes and dried rose petals because she freakin' rocks. So that me and my family right now. I'll get into what's happened these last 2 weeks later. Holla!
