Matthew 9: 35-38
35Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37Then He said to His disciples, The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. (NKJV)
Why do we forget the harvest that wonders outside our front door, or walks past us in the hallway at work?? Why dont we see they need God just as much as the women living in India or the child in El Salvador??
Too often we dont take the statement Youre now entering the mission field (as you are leaving your leaving your local church) to heart. We feel weve been charged up to handle our own battles and dont think about others who are also battling.
As you enter each day, look at each person you pass-by or sit next to on the bus/train; speak a quick prayer that they to will know who Jesus is and they can have a relationship with him.
Remember every believer in Christ is a laborer for Gods harvest.
I was talking with a neighbor yesterday... I knew their son was in the Army.. I hadn't seen him in a while... I asked them how he was doing.. they stated he (John - asked for his name) had deployed to Iraq about a month ago... knowing what's going on there and the everyday dangers our soldiers/sailers/airman face I knew it would be a long and possibly stressfull year for them... I quickly stated I'd pray for him and they were both grateful for me even asking how he was... mom was wondering how the mothers did it during the Vietnam war... no email contact or phone calls, just letters and they were few, if any... John has access to email where he's at and can call...
sometimes in our busy life we don't take the time to let our neighbors know we care for them...
Just asking a simple question brought some light into a family's day
Matthew 6
I'm reading the Book of Matthew Chapter 6... Read the NLT, NKJV and now the Message Bilble... I like how all three compliment the verses in Chapter 6...
From Message Bible:
1 "Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don't make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won't be applauding. 2-4"When you do something for someone else, don't call attention to yourself. You've seen them in action, I'm sure—'playactors' I call them— treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that's all they get. When you help someone out, don't think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out.
how true it is that people do this... I've tried to keep myself humble...
5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.
I love this... who said we have to make it a big issue... we can pray ANYWHERE (our car, bathroom, office, walking down the hallway)... that's what makes it so easy, but yet we humans make it so hard...
34"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
And the final verse should ring in all our ears/mind... don't worry about tomorrow... we have enough today...
GOD BLESS
This evening was awesome... as usually... speakers are different each year but the message is always right on...
Adam McCain... Like Jesus,
John 20:30-31
Luke 10:38-42
Believing in Jesus is suppose to bring us life (life=devine nature/God concious/always growing)
Warned to becarefull to not get "to all about myself"
We are to become like Jesus.. his character: always forgiving, caring, simple, full of faith and not of fear, always kind, full of power, endured hardship,... just a few...
If you are not growing you may have lost the life of God...
A fighter – someone who desires to beat up and/or be beaten up.
Willing to endure the extensive training required
Willing to sacrifice all other joys which most normal people get to participate in
Why do they do it?? For themselves, their family and/or their country
The training requires discipline… –- are you disciplined??
To eat right – no more junk food
To sleep right – can't stay up late anymore
To train right – a whole lot of exercising
The training requires willingness… -- how willing are you??
To run more – endurance
To jump rope – quickness with your feet
To use the speed bag – develop coordination and quick reactions
The Ultimate Fighter is someone who; in addition to their boxing skills; also have a martial arts or wrestling skills… -- you willing to go the extra mile??
Their training will include
Weight training
Martial Arts
Wrestling
They will fight hand-to-hand, with the ultimate goal to cause an opponent to "tap out," to submit or surrender…
These folks love their sport so much they "want to" do it; no one makes them do it…
As Believers (Fighter), we started with a lot of energy, we set out to learn about God, we read our Bible, we read other books which help us in our walk, we attend Bible studies and we soak thinks in… because we "wanted to"…
A strong Believer (Ultimate Fighter).. goes the extra mile, works at being the ultimate example for Christ by going out of their way to reach out, always having God on their minds…
Then there's the submission – the tap out…
Are we submitting to God's leading in our life to be the fighter…
Or
Are we submitting to Satan?… are we "tapping out" when it gets tough… when it's not going the way "we" thought it should… when the temptations are too strong and "we" try to do it on our own…
When I say "we" I'm also talking about myself… I've received and shared messages which God has spoken to me to help me, but I'm also to share with you, to help you grow in Christ…
Ecclesiastes 9:11-12
11I took another walk around the neighborhood and realized that on this earth as it is—
The race is not always to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
Nor satisfaction to the wise,
Nor riches to the smart,
Nor grace to the learned.
Sooner or later bad luck hits us all.
12No one can predict misfortune.
Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds in a trap,
So men and women are caught
By accidents evil and sudden.
Hebrew 12:1-2
1Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
2 Timothy 4:7
7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
This should be our cry… to fight the good fight
