Liberal attacks in news

Responds to Liberal Attacks over Foley Situation by Pete Winn, associate editor What does the reprehensible behavior of a now-disgraced !@#$ Republican congressman have to do with Christian conservatives? Nothing, says the founder of Focus on the Family Action. Focus on the Family Action Chairman Dr. James Dobson took on liberal news media and politicians today and accused them of using the behavior of former Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., to try to make political hay and tarnish the reputation of conservative candidates and all Christians — including him — in the process. "What Congressman Foley did was inexcusable, reprehensible and morally depraved," Dobson said. "Let there be no question about the position we have taken on this." Speaking on his nationally syndicated radio program, Dobson made a point of distinguishing between the actual behavior of the former Florida congressman — who resigned after sending inappropriate e-mails and messages to teenaged pages — and the scandal the media is trying to generate while seeking the ouster of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. "A representative who has been a closet homosexual for years, apparently, was finally caught doing something terribly wrong and when the news broke, he packed up his things and went home," Dobson said. And that, he said, should have been the end of the story. But it wasn't. "As we know, the media and the Democrats saw an opportunity to make much, much, more out of it," Dobson said, "impugning the morals and character, not only of this disgraced congressman, but of entire the entire Republican Congress — and Christian conservatives, including me." Dobson said the liberal media is bizarrely — and wrongly — trying to somehow connect evangelicals with this scandal. "Somebody is going to have to tell me what in the wide world this indiscretion by a member of Congress has to do with evangelical Christians. And in my case, especially me," he said. "What in the world is the connection there? And yet the media is trying to link us somehow." He quoted from a New York Times editorial with the headline "Conservative Coalition appears to be Coming Apart at the Seams" that was written by Paul Krugman. "It will be interesting to see how Dr. Dobson," Krugman wrote, "who declared about Bill Clinton that no man has ever done more to debase the presidency — responds to the Foley scandal. Does the failure of Republican leaders to do anything about a sexual predator in their midst outrage him as much as a Democratic president's consensual affair?" Dobson emphatically said he stands by his assessment of President Clinton's scandal. As for Foley's action … "In fact, it does outrage me, Mr. Krugman," Dobson said. "We condemn the Foley affair categorically. And we also believe that what Mr. Clinton did was one of the most embarrassing and wicked things ever done by a president in power. "Let me remind you, sir," he said, referring to Krugman, "that it was not just James Dobson who found the Lewinsky affair reprehensible. More than 140 newspapers called for Clinton's resignation. But the president didn't do what Mr. Foley did in leaving — he stayed in office, and he lied to the grand jury to obscure the facts." Tom Minnery, senior vice president of government and public policy at Focus on the Family Action, said what Krugman and the rest of the liberal media basically want is for Dr. Dobson — and by extension, all Christian conservatives — to vindicate themselves by condemning the entire Republican Party "or risk being seen as the biggest of all hypocrites." "They see this only in political terms," Minnery said. "Not in terms of illicit sex, not in terms of the evil of somebody going after a young person with salacious e-mails, they turn it immediately to the party — and they do that only because we're now a month before a very important election." Dobson said the liberal media's fixation is based on nothing but politics at its basest. He said even the timing of this "scandal" is suspicious. "(It was released by liberals on) the last day of the session of Congress, when it couldn't be responded to do — the last day," he said. "It is the day you would not want something like this to break. And they've known it for years. They've held it for years, and then they threw it out there on the last day of the session demanding that the speaker of the house resign." At heart, Dobson said, what the liberal media and some Democrats have been trying to do in the way they played this story, is to suppress the turnout of values voters on Nov. 7. "What they really want to do is to convince (value voters) that 'all of Washington is wicked and evil, and there is no sense in your even voting, because one's as bad as another,' " he said, "and to impugn the character of those who are trying to live a righteous life, even if imperfectly. "None of us is perfect. None of us can claim to have any perfection. If we did, we wouldn't need a Savior." Dobson says the liberal media despise the significant role religious conservatives played in the 2004 election. "Two years ago, (the media) didn't see it coming," he said. "They didn't know the values voters were going to come out in great numbers. And they were shocked when it happened. And they've been determined ever since then to make sure it didn't happen again — and this is part of that effort." For those in the media who are making allusions between the Foley situation and the 1980s scandals of televangelists Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart, Dobson has a message: "I'd like to remind everybody that Mark Foley was not an evangelical Christian, he was not a pastor, he was not an evangelist — he wasn't even really part of the pro-family movement, he was a closet homosexual." Dobson encouraged his listeners not to be duped by liberal members of the media into staying home on election day, especially since there may be another Supreme Court opening or two in the next two years and the results of this election will determine who gets to confirm the president's nominees. "If the values voters come out again," he said, "it will turn the direction of this country, and maybe forever."

US Supreme Court

High Court Fall Term Finds Spotlight on Alito by Pete Winn, associate editor Decision on partial-birth abortion could signal a new direction. The fall term of the U.S. Supreme Court is under way, and all eyes are on the Court's newest member — and the impact he could make as a conservative vote on the nearly evenly split body. Justice Samuel Alito, Jr., did something rare for any justice recently — spoke out publicly about the judiciary. He had words of warning about Senate confirmation hearings. "I think this is one of those times in our history when there are some real threats to the federal and state judiciary," Alito told a group of judges and attorneys at a recent meeting in Nassau County, N.Y., "and I don't think I'm being too alarmist to say we could be not too far from the tipping point when an accumulation of things does real damage to these vital institutions." One of those "things" impacting courts, he said, is the confirmation process, and the practice of opponents making unfounded charges of ethical violations against judicial nominees during confirmation proceedings to try to block them — something which happened to both Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts, and something which Senate Democrats continue to do to pending nominees to positions on federal appeals courts. "This is extremely damaging," Alito said. "People who go into public service, people who go into a judicial career, cherish their reputations as ethical people." Mat Staver, president of Liberty Counsel, said Alito is absolutely right about the confirmation process. "We should not turn nomination hearings into political witch hunts," Staver said, "as some of the Senate Democrats have attempted to do against George W. Bush's nominees." Never have judgeships been as contentious — or as important — as they are today. "Unfortunately, these have become very political appointments, and very politically divisive, primarily because the Supreme Court has moved from a judicial function into a legislative function — and the Court has become political in itself." The Supreme Court, meanwhile, will get a chance to flex its political muscles in November, when it will hear oral arguments in a blockbuster case challenging the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act — a measure which has been on hold since Congress passed it in 2003. Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said Alito's presence could make a difference in the outcome — especially because he took the place of Sandra Day O'Connor. "O'Connor voted to strike down the partial-birth abortion statute in 2000," he said. "This time around, we believe we have a much more conservative jurist, who would defer to the Congress on this one. We're hopeful that the 5-4 loss on the partial-birth ban in 2000 could turn into a 5-4 win." Staver said he believes the decision in the partial-birth abortion case could signal a new direction. "I think we will see the court moving gradually, perhaps cautiously," he said, "into the pro-life, sanctity-of-life arena." You can receive family news

surprise!

I'll bet this was a surprise to NBC. Do you believe in God? NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest Number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the Percentage was the same as this: 86% to keep the words, IN God We Trust and God in the Pledge of Allegiance 14% against. That is a pretty 'commanding' public response. I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn .. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such A mess about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why is the world catering to this 14%? AMEN! If you agree, pass this on, if not, simply delete. In God We Trust

Scars

THE SCARS OF LIFE Some years ago, on a hot summer day in south Florida , a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out! the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore. His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could. Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him. From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go. A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator. Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal. And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved. The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, "But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go." You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you. The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God. He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way . But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very, very grateful. He did not and will not ever let you go.

backwards????

morning study in Mark chapter 9 . An interesting thought came to mind, Seems to me by this scripture verse 48 NIV;CJB; verses 46,47,48 in NKJ. speaks of the things that may cause sin in your life; your Hands, Your feet, or your eyes. Cut them off rather than go to hell. No argument about literally. but the verses "Their WORM DOES NOT DIE AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED" Seem like the eveloution theroy just may be backwards!!! God designed every thing in the beauty of HIs glory. When sin entered through disobedience. all things began to evolve to lower and lower state. Deterioring in every way. this verse speaks of the worm of them who sin, never dies. Suffers in the fire for ever. That is a very low level of life from what GOd first made man, in HIS own inage!!!!! Just some thoughts to think. What's you thoughts?????

Veggie tales

From: "AFA ActionAlert" To: Hope Sutphin Subject: NBC: Bible Verses In Veggie Tales Offensive, But Not Madonna's Mockery Of The Crucifixion Of Christ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 15:57:58 -0500 Donald E. Wildmon Founder and Chairman September 28, 2006 Please help us get this information into the hands of as many people as possible by forwarding it to your entire email list of family and friends. NBC: Bible Verses In Veggie Tales Offensive, But Not Madonna's Mockery Of The Crucifixion Of Christ Dear Hope, NBC anti-Christian bigotry continues. This time NBC censored Bible verses and expressions of Christian love from the children's cartoon Veggie Tales being shown Saturday mornings on NBC. NBC says comments such as "God made you special and He loves you very much" were offensive and censored them from the show. In response to the outrage over the allegations that NBC was ordering the removal of any references to God and the Bible from the animated series, the network first issued a flat denial. As reported in Broadcasting & Cable, NBC said they had to "clip off the beginning and ending tags, which are Bible verses, but they were also arguably the easiest cut to make." The creator of Veggie Tales, Phil Vischer, said NBC's excuse for censoring the Bible verses was not true. Vischer said, "Well, that's kinda funny, because as the guy required to do all the editing, I know that statement is false...The show wasn't too long, it was too Christian. The show was already cut down to the proper length, so timing had nothing to do with it." NBC then backpeddled: "NBC is committed to the positive messages and universal values of Veggie Tales. Our goal is to reach as broad an audience as possible with these positive messages while being careful not to advocate any one religious point of view." Evidently NBC considers not being truthful as one of their "universal values." Vischer said had he known how much censorship NBC would exercise, he would not have signed on for the network deal. Censored were comments such as: "Calm down. The Bible says we should love our enemies." And "the Bible says Samson got his strength from God. And God can give us strength, too." NBC says using Bible verses or referring to God is offensive to some non-Christians. But NBC doesn't hesitate to offend Christians by showing Madonna mocking the crucifixion of Christ. Neither do not mind offending Christians in their new program Studio 60 with a segment called Crazy Christians. (Please read the review.) This will seem a strong statement, and it is: The real reason the religious content is being censored is that the networks are run by people who have an anti-Christian bias. I noticed this anti-Christian bigotry and spoke out against it over 25 years ago. I'm sorry if someone thinks that is too harsh, but I must speak the truth as God leads me to see the truth. (Please click here to read excerpts from a speech I gave to a group of TV officials in September, 1981—25 years ago.) Take Action 1. Send an email to NBC asking them to end their bias against Christians and stop censoring the references to God's love in Veggie Tales. 2. Forward this to friends and family so they will know of NBC's anti-Christian bias. NBC is owned by General Electric. 3. Print out the AFA Pass Along sheet and distribute at your Sunday School class and church. Ask your pastor to encourage members to send an email. If you think our efforts are worthy, would you please support us with a small gift? Thank you for caring enough to get involved. Sincerely, Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman American Family Association P.S. Please forward this e-mail message to your family and friends!

Calls U.S. President George W. Bush "the Devil?" Dear M., Our President, George W. Bush, has been recently exposed to someof the most vitriolic verbal attacks that I can remember in my lifetime. Yesterday, Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela, brazenly called President Bush "the Devil" at the United Nations General Assembly. At other times he has said, "You are a donkey, Mr. Bush." It is interesting that many members of the United Nations sat on their hands when President Bush presented a strong and clear argument against global terrorism on Tuesday. Yet they laughed and applauded on Wednesday when Chavez said, "Yesterday, the devil came right here…and it smells of sulfur still." I don't know about you, but I was stunned to hear a head of state speaking that way about our President in such a public, diplomatic forum. My prayers for President Bush have been especially strong these last couple of days. He needs our support like never before. Knowing that President Bush is a gentleman and probably won't lose any sleep over these evil comments, it still makes me angry because I believe strongly that such an attack on our President is also an attack on our nation! If you have similar feelings on this matter, then please help me compile tangible expressions of support for President Bush from Presidential Prayer Team members. Follow the simple survey instructions below to express your opinions and prayerful comments, and we'll forward them along to the White House expeditiously. America will you let this mean dictator who has swor to destroy America continue???? This is the person who has complete control of CITO gas! STOP buying from them and let them know we AMERICA UNDER GOD stand up to the terror of evil.
