Subject: FW: Arlington Cemetery at Christmas..
I had never heard of this. I have only visited in the summer months. I wonder why the press hasn't enlightened the public about it?
Arlington National Cemetery

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine . The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state. Please share this with everyone on your address list. You hear too much about the bad things people do. Everyone should hear about this.
This sounds similar to what DC2 Anderson mentioned he had been contacted with. Latest Credit Card Scam In this scam, they provide YOU with all information, except the one piece they want... Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. By understanding how this Credit Card scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from "Master Card". The scam works like this: Person calling says, " I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an A nti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?"
You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, call the 1-800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask yo u to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a sca m and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richar dson of Master Card" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. If anyone doubts a scam is authentic, try this web site.
Kerry's 'Botched Joke' Not Funny, Say Conservatives and VeteransBy Chad Groening and Jody Brown November 1, 2006 (AgapePress) - Senator John Kerry says it was a "botched joke" -- but conservative and Republican leaders aren't laughing. And neither is the American Legion. The senator from Massachusetts, while stumping for Democratic candidates in California, was speaking to a group of college students in Pasadena on Monday when he said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." The comment, as CNSNews.com puts it, has been "raising eyebrows and infuriating conservatives" since it hit the newswires and airwaves, eliciting accusations that the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee is demonstrating "elitism" and "smearing" American service men and women by implying they are uneducated. In the ensuing firestorm, Kerry initially refused to apologize -- calling the remark a "botched joke" intended to insult President Bush -- and accused Republicans who are taking issue with the statement of engaging in a "classic GOP, textbook Republican campaign tactic." He has now apologized, says Reuters, which quotes him as saying "Of course, I'm sorry about a botched joke." According to the senator's office, Kerry neglected to add the punch line: "Just ask President Bush." But Gary Bauer of the group American Values says Kerry's comment does more than expose Kerry's anti-Bush leanings. "I think it also exposes the left wing of American politics, generally," says Bauer. "They've been very chameleon-like in this campaign, sounding moderate, keeping their leaders like Nancy Pelosi and others off the radar screen. But we've seen the real face, I think, of the political left in the United States." Gary BauerThe conservative spokesman, a former GOP presidential candidate, also does not buy Kerry's explanation that his comment was not really directed at American troops. "He's now denying that he was referring to U.S. service men and women [on Monday], but we have to keep in mind that, not that many months ago, Senator Kerry talked about U.S. troops terrorizing Iraqis -- and he had to backtrack on that, too," Bauer recalls. "So I think we got a real glimpse here of the anti-military attitude that prevails on the political left in the United States." The president himself fired back, saying that Kerry's suggestion that men and women serving in the U.S. military are somehow uneducated is "insulting and shameful." Bush was speaking in Georgia when he said, "Our troops did not enlist because they did not study hard in school or do their homework. [Those] who serve in our all-volunteer Armed Forces are serving because they are patriots -- and Senator Kerry owes them an apology." Arizona Senator John McCain, a Vietnam War veteran, also demanded that Kerry apologize, pointing out that it is precisely because of Americans like those serving in Iraq that the Massachusetts senator has the freedom -- and right -- to utter "insensitive, ill-considered, and uninformed remarks." In addition, the national commander of the nation's largest veterans organization says Kerry's "over-the-top" verbal attack demanded an apology. Paul Morin says while The American Legion shares Senator Kerry's appreciation for education, the troops in Iraq "represent the most sophisticated, technologically superior military" that the world has ever seen. "I think there is a thing or two that they could teach most college professors and campus elitists about the way the world works," Morin offers in a press release, sharing that he is both "disappointed" and "outraged" by Kerry's comments. The spokesman for The American Legion also points out a consistency in the senator's comments over the years. "A generation ago," says Morin, "Senator Kerry slandered his comrades in Vietnam by saying that they were rapists and murderers. It wasn't true then, and his warped view of today's heroes isn't true now." As Election Day approaches, Bauer believes there could be some political fallout for the Democratic Party as a result of Kerry's comments. He expresses concern about the survival of the nation when there are politicians "ridiculing patriotism and suggesting that military service and sacrifice is something for stupid kids."
The Bathtub Test It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started. During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was for defining whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. "Well", said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub". "Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the teaspoon or the teacup."
"No", said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window"? DID YOU PASS, OR DO YOU WANT THE BED NEXT TO MINE?
CHEAP LABOR? Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about? Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage Consumers don't want expensive produce Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, a lie...an oxymoron. There is no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free. He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent He qualifies for food stamps He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care . His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school. He requires bilingual teachers and books . He qualifies for relief from high energy bills. If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at the taxpayer's expense. He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance. Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material. He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits. Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his. The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean up. Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people! Kind of scary, isn't it when you think about it?

Manure!

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common.
It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen.
Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!
Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.
After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.
Thus evolved the term "S.H.I.T " , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.
You probably did not know the true history of this word.
Neither did I
I had always thought it was a golf term
Prayer Walkers Fight Violence with Prayer Courtesy of the Longview (TX) News-Journal Intercessors take their faith to the streets at an anti-violence prayer walk they believe will positively affect their community of Longview, TX. Photo courtesy of the Longview News-Journal.
Organizers of the second "Unity in the Community" prayer walk scheduled Wednesday are looking for a turnout that equals the 500 walkers who participated in the first event in August. "We expect positive results," said the Rev. Keven Johnson, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. "We're hoping to add to our strength. We're looking for an outstanding turnout, as good or better than the first." The anti-violence prayer walk, held October 18, began at Bethel Temple Church and took walkers through town and back to the church parking lot. The first prayer walk August 30 started at the Longview Police Department's Community Resource Office. Walkers prayed and sang hymns as they walked the one-mile route. They stopped and prayed at three apartment complexes along the route. McCaleb and Johnson said there are similar plans for Wednesday's walk. The police chief said the area for this week's event was selected by the group that's heading the effort, Longview Area Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. "We're trying to concentrate on areas that have consistently high crime rates," said Mayor Jay Dean. "We're trying to go into those particular neighborhoods to bring people together to work with the city and the police to reduce crime in their neighborhood." Johnson said he believes the first walk had a positive effect. "It told the people in the community that Longview cares. That was the message it carried to the community," he said. Johnson said Monday that organizers don't have an alternate plan if it rains. I road my bike in a prayer walk covering covering the complete boarder of school district. This is something I would urge all to do. Get Church members to cover their own areas of home. Take back the land from the curses of evil and stand like Abrham when GOd said all the place your feet trod I will give to you. More info if you want, HopeS
October 18, 2006 Studds' Death Leveraged by !@#$ Activists by Pete Winn, associate editor At least one group is arguing the deceased former congressman's same-sex partner should receive his federal pension. Homosexual activists are looking to capitalize on the recent death of the first openly !@#$ congressman, Rep. Gerry Studds, by claiming his same-sex partner is being discriminated against by the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). That law prohibits Studds' !@#$ partner from inheriting his federal pension, worth an estimated $114, 000 annually, according to Gary Buseck of !@#$ & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders. So, the group plans to use the incident to "educate" Congress about the need to legalize same-sex marriage — and then work to get lawmakers to strike down the law. The federal DOMA defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman for the purposes of federal law — and says states need not recognize same-sex relationships, even if they are defined as "marriage" under one state's laws. Studds and his partner, Dean Hara, were married in Massachusetts — the only state that allows same-sex couples to unite in matrimony. Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Media Institute at the Media Research Center, said if Studds wanted Hara to receive his pension, he likely could have named him as a beneficiary, but the late congressman apparently didn't. Still, Knight is not surprised !@#$ activists are trying to leverage Studds' death to push for !@#$ marriage, since one of their tactics is to portray same-sex relationships as being equal to real marriages. "They are comparing unequal things, however, and it really isn't about equality," Knight said. "It's about seizing the moral capital of marriage and applying it to a relationship that's totally different, one which is not essential for society's survival." Knight said lawmakers should not be in the business of placing incentives into law for relationships that "can be dangerous to society." "The only reason why the law benefits marital spouses is because marriage is indispensable to society," he said. "It does so much good that we can't do without it, so the government says, 'We're going to build these privileges and benefits into the system, because there is nothing like marriage. It's unique.' "Here you have a relationship between two guys, and the surviving guy is saying, 'I'm entitled to the same thing a wife would get because I've given to society just what a wife would have.' No, he hasn't." Carrie Gordon Earll, director of issue analysis for Focus on the Family Action, said the Studds incident is evidence of the real intention of !@#$ activists. "What this tells us is that anti-marriage !@#$ activists will stop at nothing to dismantle, destroy and turn on the ash heap traditional marriage," she explained. "They will not be happy until every law that protects marriage and encourages heterosexual marriage is dismantled and destroyed. "For us to think, for even one moment, that offering civil unions or domestic partnerships or some other kind of intermediate option is going to satisfy them is utterly foolish." Studds was best known for having literally turned his back on the members of the House after they voted in 1983 to censure him for having sex a decade earlier with a then-17-year-old page. Massachusetts voters re-elected the Democrat until he retired in 1997. "Americans overwhelmingly reject the equation of !@#$ relationships with marriage," Knight said, "but you can bet that this claim by Gerry Studds' partner will get good coverage on the networks and also in the mainstream print media."

Laus Deo: A History lesson you may have forgotten One detail that is not mentioned, in DC, is that there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument. With all the uproar about removing the ten commandments, etc.... This is worth a moment or two of your time. I was not aware of this historical information. On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, are displayed two words: Laus Deo. No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less. Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know. But these words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched top the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America. Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, un-noticed words. Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world. So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean? Very simply, they say "Praise be to God!" Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo..........Praise be to God!" From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments. From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles l'Enfant ...a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north. The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west. A cross you ask? Why a cross? What about separation of church and state? Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was not, is not, in the Constitution. So, read on. How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice. Praise be to God! Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a message On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered by the City of Baltimore; on the 20th is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians; on the 24th a presentation made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God! When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy ."One Nation, Under God." I am awed by Washington's prayer for America. Have you never read it? Well, now is your unique opportunity, so read on! "Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." Laus Deo! When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look. You may forget the width and height of "Laus Deo", its location, or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its meaning, or these words: "Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." (Psalm 127: 1) It is hoped you will send this to every child you know; to every sister, brother, father, mother or friend. They will not find offense, because you have given them a lesson in history that they probably never learned in school. With that, be not ashamed, or afraid, but have pity on those who will never see this because someone failed to send it on.
