 Just wanted to get some opinions. There are a lot of lyrics out there that have cussing and strong sexual content. In your opinion is it a sin to listen to these songs. Do you think it affects the way you act and think. Does it affect your walk and your witness.

 I'll wait and see what some of you have to say before I post my opinion. Looking forward to seeing what others have to say.

Well i'm not listening to anything using the F word, it would be hard though to avoid every kind of swearing or sexual reference

well, it depends on how strong of a christian u r. me for example, it doesnt affect me, because im a firm bliever and go to church all the time now. NOW my sister hasnt went to church in years and the type of music she listening to is shaping her life so for her, yea ist is a sin cuz it affects her lifestyle and takes her away from the lord

That's a good point. A strong Christian wouldn't be changed by music, perhaps we could see music like food, a balanced diet.

Well, it wouldn't affect christians if they don't let if get into their mind and spirit and are mature enough to listen to bad songs. I don't listen to it period. I'm not sure if i'll be able to be mature about it cause I've already tried it once and it messed me up. So there are some who can stay close to God's word and still listen to bad songs, but not me.

(to the user above) I understand that totally, because I have a weak mind and my thoughts really seem to run, and I want to have a clear head. Plenty of music sounds amazing and has talented people, so dodgy ones shouldn't be an issue.

personaly i dont think anyone should, it doesnt matter how strong of a faith they have, what is wrong is wrong. end of story. and everyone knows what is acceptable and what is not. that doesnt just count for music, this goes for movies, books, people you hang out with, ect.,

AND... I feel it does hurt your witnessing.
I mean... If someone who claims to be a christian was driving down the road with the windows of their car down and their music blasting and the music that they were listening to was bad... I'd probably question their christianity.  I mean... Some lyrics have swearing and/or sexually explicit material... hatred... killing.  All of those things are sin and sin is displeasing to God and seperates us from God so why would you show your acceptance of someone singing about those things?

well i listen to just about any kind of song. and they have cussing, and what not in the lyrics. i dont really think its bad just as long as i or any one doesn't change how they act. i haven't changed but its just me. to others they may think its bad and a sin. its just my small opinion.

It's not a matter of "thinking" it's bad. It's "knowing" it's bad because in the Bible it says these things "are" sin!
