CHASINGLASTPLACE was formed in Duvall, Washington in 2006 and features alternative guitar-driven Seattle rock and commanding vocals. The band’s unique name refers directly to the New Testament concept that many people who are first will be last, and those who are last will be first (Mark 10:31). Since forming, CHASINGLASTPLACE has drawn audiences of as many as several hundred. While the band’s influences vary greatly, their style can be compared to artists such as Creed, Kutless, Barlow Girl, Plumb, Goo Goo Dolls, Jars of Clay and The Benjamin Gate.
CHASINGLASTPLACE has a passion for meaningful music. The band’s original songs speak to the struggles of every day life. Some of their favorite sets also include songs by a few of today's top Christian artists like Chris Tomlin, Todd Agnew and David Crowder. The music offers a deep and meaningful look at life through the eyes of a hope that only comes in a relationship with Christ.
The band’s combined experience in the industry and diversity in age is one of its unique features. Their style can be attributed to the distinctiveness of the band’s members — a mix of veterans from the professional music scene and some fresh new talent, including:
After serving in the Special Ops unit that would later be featured in the movie “Black Hawk Down,” lead guitarist JC Cunningham made his first impact as a member of “JC & the Outlaw Band,” which opened for acts such as Shania Twain, REO Speedwagon, Twister Alley and Sammy Kershaw from 1993 to 1997.
Bassist Gregory Otis has been playing for more than four decades. He’s been involved in a number of Seattle bands over the years including Brooks and Watten, a favorite among crowds of college students in the 1970s.
Since 2004, Bethany Jeanne has been a featured performer on the televised competition Seattle Stars on KIRO 7 and Gospel Fest, an event held at the Paramount Theater. Her style and power has been compared to that of “Heart.”
Guitarist Jared Burns’ extensive experience leading worship ministries in local churches is complimented by his formal and informal musical training.
Drummer Kenny English’s interest in music began at age 10. He’s played in various jazz bands, as well as a number of local stage productions before joining the band. He also worked with Steve Smith at the Seattle Drum School.
CHASINGLASTPLACE is giving back to their community through a creative collaboration with Life Choices, a local organization and regional provider of free medical services and counseling for individuals dealing with unplanned pregnancies. The band tours local churches and other events inspiring audiences with the message of hope in their music. A percentage of proceeds from every show are donated directly to this incredible partner organization.
