The Cries of Young People Today Results from the exculusive Gallup “Cries of Teens” SurveyFindings are based on telephone interviews with 501 persons, aged 13-17, nationwide. Cry &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; Percentage1. The need to be trusted &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; 92.72. The need to be understood and loved &nb sp; &nb sp; 92.23. The need to feel safe and secure where I live and go to school 92.14. The need tobelieve that life is meaningful and has a purpose 91.65. The need to be listened to, to be heard &nb sp; &nb sp; 91.56. The need to be appreciated or valued &nb sp; &nb sp;88.27. The need to be supported in my efforts &nb sp; &nb sp; 87.4 · The need to be trusted. Teens believe that their elders distrust them and regard them as irresponsible and unapredictable. Teens want to be taken seriously.· The need to be understood and loved. Teens tend to believe that their elders do not understand them. They crave to be listened to and loved by their parents or guardians. · The need to feel safe and secure where I live and go to school where they live and go to school. · The need to believe life is meaningful and has a purpose. Surveys show that this is a growing need in the populace as a whole.· The need to be listened to--to be heard Teens have much to say, but are we listening?· The need to be appreciated and valued. Roughly one-third of teens are found to have low self-esteem, which is, of course, a key factor in antisocial behavior.· The need to be supported in their efforts. Teens want more help from their parents on homework and more discussion on a wide range of topics.
