Asking....Why Can it Be So Hard Sometimes For People?
Posted On 10/12/2006 20:59:24 by bojangles

Matthew 7:7 = "ASK and it will be GIVEN to you.  SEEK and you will FIND it.  KNOCK and the door will be OPENED to you."

This verse has been stuck to me for almost a year!!  I didn't truly understand why it stuck with me so much, but I think I might understand now.  When we read this verse, sometimes we may think, "Wow, I can get ANYTHING I want!!"  Well, sure God could give us everything we wanted, but He's not going to give us EVERYTHING we wanted....He's going to give MORE THAN EVERYTHING we want.  Sometimes it may not seem like it.  But think about it:

We all naturally want to do things we really shouldn't do.  Whether it's as huge as murder or as little as gossiping, in God's eyes they're all the same.

"You will not have other God's before me.  For I am a jealous God." -Exodus

Yes, that's correct, God is JEALOUS!!  You may say, "I thought God thinks jealousy is wrong?"  Well, it's wrong for us to become jealous.  But it's not wrong for God to be jealous.  This may not make sense to you.  At first it didn't make sense to me either.  But here's an example you may be able to understand i t better:

You're an inventor.  Your invention you've created is so awesome, you want everyone to experience it!  But you probably want credit for the invention.  So you make a blueprint of the invention right?  Lets say you make the blueprint and people are just buying your inventions like the world was about to end.  But then, you here on the news people are taking credit for the inventions for themselves instead of you!  You try to tell people and show the blueprints to them that you made the amazing invention.  But they won't listen to you.  They still continue to tell everyone they are the makers of the invention.  Then not only are those people getting the credit for the invention, they begin making copies of the invention and selling them and no one is buying them from you anymore.  A few people are, but most people are buying your invention from other people!  Wouldn't you feel jealous that other people are getting credit for your invention?  It's the same way with God.  He made earth and it was wonderful when He made it.  But as humans we are naturally drawn to sinful desires and start puting other things first instead of God!

But, God WILL provide us our needs.  He won't ever give us a dillema we can't handle with Him, because there is no such thing!  Jesus says, "Ask and it will be given to you." Ask God your needs and wants.  God knows and if it will hurt you, He won't give it to you.  When we don't get what we want, there's a good reason for it.  Just like a mother may not by her toddler at the grocery store a bottle of alcohol or a box of cigars if the toddler wants them.  The mother knows those are not good for the toddler.  The toddler doesn't realize it now, but later on he may realize it.  God knows what's best for us.  Sometimes it's not clear to us because our pride and He's power blinds us.  But there is always a good reason.

Jesus also says, "Seek and you will find it."  Not only do you need to ask God, but you need to GO and DO it.  What I mean by this is if you ask God for patience, then go and try with everything you've got to be patient.

Another thing Jesus says is, "Knock and the door will be opened."  I'm sure you've heard the saying, "When one door closes, another opens."  This is usually used to describe opportunities.  But even if all of our opportunity doors seem to be closed, if there is something you want to do and it's pleasing to God, He will open that door for you when you are ready.

I think the reason Matthew 7:7 has stuck with me for almost a year is because I think God is basically telling me, "Dude, Allie, you need to trust me.  You can't handle things all alone.  Ask me to help you, and I will help you."

Jesus also says, "Come to me all who are weary and heavy burdened.  For my burden is light and weightless."

Basically, give your burdens to God, and He'll carry them for you.  Your burdens will eventually be gone, feel....weightless.
