David Avenges the Gibeonites
1 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, “It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Gibeonites.â€


It took David three years to ask God if there was a particular reason for the famine. When we face a difficult circumstance, should we ask God why it's happening? The tendency is to assume, "It's a fallen world; bad things just happen." Perhaps we should ask God to reveal if there's anything we did to bring about the difficulty, anything we need to repent of or make amends for. In this case, Saul had done something bad, and the famine was the result. When David made things right, the famine ceased. What areas of your life could use some examination?
