The Spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ. Understanding this opens the door to understanding prophets of the old testament. These verses from Isaiah gives us insight into the ministry of Christ. Isaiah 50:4-6The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know what to say to all these weary ones. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will. 5 The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me, and I have listened. I do not rebel or turn away. 6 I give my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pull out my beard. I do not hide from shame, for they mock me and spit in my face. Verse six is a reference to the how the Romans beat the Lord prior to his crucifixion. The Spirit of Christ spoke through the prophet Isaiah gives us an eye witness account of what was going to transpire centuries later. In verse four the Lord gives us the source of his words of wisdom,”he Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom,” The Son of God received his words directly from the father. Christ himself confirmed this in the Gospels with this statement “the words I speak are not my own but those of the one who sent me.” Jesus went to the father for wisdom and understanding, as an example for us to follow. Because the words of Christ came from God they contained knowledge beyond that of the educated of the day. In the following verse we see how the educated reacted to his words. John 7:15 The Jewish leaders were surprised when they heard him. "How does he know so much when he hasn't studied everything we've studied?" they asked. The pharisees were bound up blinded by their pride coming from their education, not seeing that God knows it all and gives knowledge to whomever he wishes. They were so blinded by their information that could not see the promised one standing before them. The Bible states very clearly that educational knowledge puffs men up in pride. This pride blinds men to the truth. Beware of any one who stands on their educational background with expressing what God has showed them They are usually walking the road of the Pharisee. The prophet Jeremiah had a struggle with the educational system oh his day. However in this next verse we see that like Isaiah, Jeremiah got his word for the Spirit of the Lord. Jeremiah 1:9 Then the Lord touched my mouth and said, "See, I have put my words in your mouth” Receiving for truth from the Lord was he only thing that kept the Prophet from falling into the same blindness that the people of his time fell into due to distorted teaching. We see this clearly brought out by Lord in this verse from Jeremiah chapter 8 Jeremiah 8:8 `How can you say, "We are wise because we have the law of the Lord," when your teachers have twisted it so badly. More things change the more they stay the same. The educational institutions of today for the most part have been badly teaching the Word of the Lord, to the extent that most Christians now a days not only do not recognized the truth, but they will attack those who teach and preach it, just like in the days of Jeremiah. The only way to see clearly in this day is to follow Christ example and seek out the truth directly for God. Every believer had access to the one who is the truth through the shed blood of Christ.
