Christmas and it's origins!
Posted On 12/07/2007 14:18:01 by preachermanslady
Did you know that what most americans now celebrate as Christmas is not what it started out as? The true origin of the holiday that so many christians so happily celebrate actually began as a pagan festival day that the church(as refered to by the Wikipedia online encyclopedia)( This refered to church was just as ungodly as the pagans that they sought to convert and not the true church of God's people) decided to develop to entice pagans into ( their version of)christianity. It really has nothing to do with Jesus or his birthdate. The Christmas celebration was created by the early church in order to entice pagan romans to convert to christianity without losing their own winter celbrations. Most of the most important gods in the religions of Ishtar and Mithra had their birthdays on December 25. Various traditions were combined from these winter festivals including some of the following:The Roman festival known as Saturnalia was one of these and these were elements brought forward from it; general relaxing, feasting, merry-making,the making and giving of small presents to both children and adults. This celebration honored the god Saturn. The next to be included was one called Natalis Solis Invicti. This allowed for many solar deities to be worshipped collectively. These were the pagan deities: Elah-Gabal, a syrian sun god; Sol, the god of Emperor Aurelian; and Mithras, a soldiers god of persian origin. The next holiday festivity is called Yule. During this celebration a yule log is burned to honor Thor, the god of thunder, with the belief that every spark from the log represented a new calf or pig to be born during the coming year. The identification of the birthdate of Christ did not at first inspire feasting or celebration. Tertullian does not mention the celebration of Christ's birth in the Church of Roman Africa. In 245, the theologian Origen denounced the idea of celebrating Christ's birthdate. He contended that only sinners, not saints, celebrated their birthdays. The Christmas tree is often explained as a Christianization of pagan traditon and ritual surrounding the Winter solstice, which included the use of evergreen boughs, and an adaptation of pagan tree worship. In the informing you of all this, you may ask whats the point? The point is why would a true God fearing, born-again child of the living God, bought with the blood of Jesus, want to take part in a holiday that, under the pretense of celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, was actually created to compromise what the word of God says in order to bring in the ungodly pagans? You might say that the compromise did not affect the word of God but in truth it did and does because most christians today do NOT know that in Jeremiah Chapter 10 that it says: Firstly not to learn the ways of the heathen for they are not God's ways and then it actually breaks it down and tells you not to cut a tree and bring it into your house, not to fix it so that it will stand upright, and not to decorate it with silver and gold. That is exactly what most christians do with the intent to celebrate a so called holiday that man created and exemplified not God and it is based on paganism and compromise. I for one am not and will not be a part of such a compromise. God said in his word to come ye out and be ye separate and that is exactly what I intend to do when it comes to the traditions of this world.
