On Saturday, August 25th, the band had the honor of being invited to play at the 2007 Crystal Tournament. This annual event benefits the Crystal Judson Brame Memorial Foundation. This organization was formed in honor of Crystal who was married to Tacoma police officer David Brame. After years of physical and psychological abuse, Crystal took steps to leave her controlling spouse and filed for divorce. She wanted to protect her children, but sadly, her estranged husband intervened. On April 26 2003, David Brame fatally shot Crystal and then himself.
Although there were a lot of laughs, and a good time was had by all in attendance, there were many sobering moments as we remembered a woman who lit up the lives of all those around her. In response to the band's performance at this event, Tournament Director Dave Purdy had this to say:
"Chasing Last Place played the banquet for our non-profit's fundraising golf tournament and absolutely made our night. Beth Burns has an amazing voice and fronts a group of terrific musicians who are also really great people. Dinner guests at our event were seen dancing between the dining tables and singing along. Chasing Last Place will be invited play our event every year!"
