From The Heart of My Daughter and Friend
Posted On 10/17/2007 14:27:45 by elder_swann

The following was written in the card I received from Aamber on Father's Day '07.

Daddy,

I love you so much. You have done a lot for me and you have supported me. Thank you for being such a clear guiding light and showing me how a man is supposed to be. Of course, I know you're not perfect, but I also know that you're stable. I truly appreciate you for that. Right now, at this stage, growing up is not easy, but with you in my life a part of the weight is lifted off my shoulders. I thank God for you all the time in my heart and my mind. You showed me what life is really about and you've taught me how to be the young lady I should be. You've filled me with love, laughter, and advice that will never fade and will be carried with me always. Happy Father's Day!! -Aamber-

I want to share this because it comes with great significance. Aamber was born on October 26, 1990, four months after her mother and I graduated from high school. One month later, her mom and I got married. Seven days later, my Army Reserve unit got activated and I went to Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. She was only two months old when I left.

When I came back, I was a very angry man. I was so angry the first five years of my daughter's life; we didn't really get to know or enjoy one another. Fast forward to 2002. Here comes separation and divorce. By the Grace of God, I got sole custody of Aamber and Joseph Jr. It has not been easy. I've cried many tears. I've dealt with much heartache and pain, but words like those above makes it all worth while.

My kids are truly a blessing from God. They are helping me become the Man of God that He's calling me to be. I truly have made more mistakes in my life than most. But, I don't regret my children. They didn't ask to be here. At least, I can do all I can to help them be the Children of God they should be and an asset to society.

Single Parents love your kids. Be and example and not a hypocrite. Don't be selfish; make the sacrifice. Plant the Seed of God's Word in them. Don't just teach them with your mouth. Teach them with you Lifestyle. I'm a 35 year old black man. There's a lot of Good things that I desire to do and will. But, right now, My Greatest Ministry is my kids.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

- Proverbs 22:6 -

Ten days from now, Aamber will be 17 years old. I'm proud to say that she's been Saved, Sanctified, and Holy Ghost Filled since she was 12.

God can make miracles out of our mess. Just wanted to share.

God Bless and May Heaven Smile Upon You.
