Joy In The Morning

"For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Psalm 30:5

There are those times and situations where it seems that weeping has surely come in to lodge for the night. You may not have outward tears, but inside your weeping continues - that deep hurt, that intense ache that will not go away. David knew the experience well, and said, "My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?" He remembered back to when he once went to the house of God with the voice of "joy and praise" but now it was all different. Yet he was able to look ahead to that "joy in the morning," when he declared, "I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God." Psalm 42:3,11

While weeping may be lodging with you, there is a place where you are to be lodging at the same time. "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide (lodge, pass the night) under the shadow of the Almighty," (Ps. 91:1). That is why there is a guarantee that joy will come in the morning. Though it be dark all around, as we ABIDE IN HIM, He works all things together into good. Then shall we sing anew, "Thou hast turned my mourning into dancing: Thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my glory (inner self) may sing praises to Thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever," Ps. 30:11-12

Yes, "He washed mine eyes with tears that I might see" wrote the songwriter. Through the weeping of the night the debris of the flesh, the dust of the earthy is washed away. We begin to see more clearly the path of righteousness. Morning comes, and with it triumphant proclamations of victory.

From evening to morning the Saviour leads on,
Through weeping at midnight, till darkness is gone,
Triumphant the singing and joy that is found
When morning bursts forth and its vict’ries abound.
