INDIE ROCK & THE CLASSICS :D

11/09/2006 17:37:07

HEY!!!!!!!!!!! Spook here!!!!! Finally the band's page is up :D Okey Dokey...... Some of you already know me "SPOOK" - yep that's me.... well now you can hear me try and sing a few notes..... *hides* ON THE PLAYER AT THE MOMENT IS............ 01. SHIVER "Shiver" is one of the oldest songs Coldplay has in their repetoir. The song, or how we interpreted it, was of someone longing for someone but being unable to get them. We were originally asked to record this song for one of our friends amateur films based on the novel by John Fowles "The Collector", in which a young girl is kidnapped because her captor is in love with her. This song was played as the opening credits and featured footage of the girl (Miranda) being filmed doing every day things such as walking to the shops etc... Since it's use in that film, it has since been played twice to an audience :D (YAY GO US!!!!!!!) lol The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Lead Guitar Michael - Guitar Oliver - Guitar Garreth - Drums 02. FLOWERS IN THE WINDOW "Flowers in the Window" was a song written by Fran Healy of the scottish band "Travis". This song is a personal favourite of ours as it not only encapsulates the "ideals" of life, but also works as very interesting contemporary mix..... etc... blah blah blah....... Another Reason why we decided to do this was...... a music store near us was closing down, and they had all the instruments marked down to really chep prices...... low and behold we found a banjo, (£10 - bargain), and that gave us the justification to do this song :D We have performed this song to an audience sadly, less times than we would have hoped... however we are planning on adding it to our future gigs. And then...... when finding out we were doing this song.... our friends..... Tegan and Emmy wanted to join in too... so.......... The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Acoustic Guitar Michael - Banjo Oliver - Electric Guitar Garreth - Drums Tegan - Bass Emms - Handbells (HAHAHAHAA lovs u x) *plus we added seagul noises* lol Loves it we do :D 03. HANDBAGS & GLADRAGS "Handbags & Gladrags" is a song which i had to do or I would burst. It's an amazing song. (What more is there to say). It was written by Mike D'Abo....(yeah i don't know who he is either - thanks wikipedia :D)... THe song it's self is about a person who wastes their time on material possesions whilst letting everything else slip....... (not guilty) This song has been performed several times to a live audience (a dead one wouldn't be that helpful) and after one particular performance... a review in the local paper said..... and i quote.... "...However out of all the evenings acts, a startling performance of "Handbags & Gladrags" by the band "THe Vertigo Effect" had to be my personal higlight, with the lead singer (and pianist), Alexis Everett (18), producing a sound that was a pleasant mix of John Lennon, and Cerys Matthews. I hope to hear more from them in the future. All the acts performed superbly...." The song we felt had to be performed differently to the others and so..... The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Piano Michael - Electric Guitar Oliver - Acoustic Guitar Garreth - Drums 04. HEART OF GLASS "Heart of Glass" is a song that "Blondie" originally sang...... basically we entered into an 80's night thing and needed a song to get in..... and so Heart of Glass was but on the diffibulators and resurected. The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Lead Guitar Michael - Guitar Oliver - Guitar Garreth - Drums 05. BEAUTIFUL When we first recorded it was for a friend who was being bullied in school, we recorded it for her and then gave it to her, and i hope it helped. The song itself is about acceptance of people, because everytime we are unkind to these people, we are killing them on the inside. We all face discrimination for one reason or another, this song is there to comfort us. This version, is the re-recorded version which we feel, although it's no where near perfect, the message behind it was important. The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Acoustic Guitar Michael - Bass Guitar/Electric Oliver - Acoustic Guitar (2) Garreth - Drums 06. BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE "Burning down the house" is a fairly fun song, but also contains a very stylish element to it... blah... etc...... We basically did this because we love it lol This was first played at our last gig, and the people seemed to like it :D so here we are. It's also a great song to move too. This version is based on the Tom Jones & The Cardigans version. The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Lead Guitar Michael - Bass Guitar Oliver - Acoustic Guitar Garreth - Drums 07. SING This is the second Travis song we have in our treasure chest. And once again features notes way out of my range lol. Nice song though lol The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Acoustic Guitar Michael - Guitar Oliver - Bass Guitar Garreth - Drums 08. THIS WOMANS WORK Recently, another very good friend of ours, rather sadly, had a miscariage. "This womans work" is a song we recorded for her. As a group this song was the hardest we've ever had to record. And i don't feel i can really write an acurate description of it, as such here at the lyrics: "Pray God you can cope. I stand outside this woman's work, This woman's world. Ooh, it's hard on the man, Now his part is over. Now starts the craft of the father. I know you have a little life in you yet. I know you have a lot of strength left. I know you have a little life in you yet. I know you have a lot of strength left. I should be crying, but I just can't let it show. I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things I should've said, That I never said. All the things we should've done, Though we never did. All the things I should've given, But I didn't. Oh, darling, make it go, Make it go away. Give me these moments back. Give them back to me. Give me that little kiss. Give me your hand. I should be crying, but I just can't let it show. I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things we should've said, That we never said. All the things we should've done, Though we never did. All the things that you needed from me. All the things that you wanted for me. All the things that I should've given, But I didn't. Oh, darling, make it go away. Make it go away, now." ---Thank you The performance credits are: Spook - Vocals/Piano Michael - Acoustic Guitar Oliver - Guitar Garreth - Drums ****** That's All folks****** -Well for the moment anyway ;)
